Having worked at the Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College for many years, I have local knowledge of, and connections with, many of the secondary schools in Darlington, County Durham and North Yorkshire. Most of my local students come to me by word of mouth.

Oxford and Cambridge English Entrance Exams (ELAT)

- As an Oxford graduate myself, I still remember how exciting and daunting it was to prepare for the Oxbridge entrance exams and interviews. For the last twenty years, I have found it exciting and rewarding to guide some of our ablest and most ambitious local sixth formers through the same process. Many other competitive English degree courses use interviews as part of their selection process. Students over the years have commented on how my practice sessions and feedback have really boosted their confidence and helped them to perform their best.

GCSE Courses
- I have been successfully teaching GCSE English and English Literature to Years 10 and 11, and to older resit students, since 1993. I offer tuition in GCSE English Language and Literature across all exam boards.

Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9)
- The transition to secondary school work can feel daunting, even more so in a year when all younger students have missed months of schooling. Many parents are reaching out for extra English support to give their children more confidence in these vital years before the start of GCSE courses. I have been working with KS3 students, first in the classroom and then through private tuition, since 1993.
- I also offer support to students preparing for independent school entrance exams.

Adult Learners
- I’ve helped many adult learners over the years, and am currently working with students tackling Access courses, the essay writing part of medical school exams and applications for study abroad. If you need an English boost for your degree or career prospects, please get in touch.
